Four County

Transportation

The Four County Electric service area has a large network of state-maintained roads in southeastern North Carolina. Our region is well connected East to West by I-40 and North to South by I-95. Also, the eventual completion of I-74 will bring another East to West connection to our service area.

The deep-water port of Wilmington is conveniently located near the southern basin of the Cape Fear River and the Four County Electric service area with a channel depth of 42 feet and 6,768 feet of wharf frontage. Also, the port of Morehead City is approximately 85 miles northeast of the port of Wilmington.

Both ports are Foreign Trade Zones and effectively connect our service are to trade lanes around the world. The North Carolina State Ports Authority is making plans to construct another port terminal down stream from the Wilmington Port which will be three miles from the Atlantic Ocean and will provided expanded port facilities for business and industry.

Our service area has six local airports as well as nearby commercial jet service to Fayetteville Regional Airport and Wilmington International Airport. Also, the area has easy access to two international hubs located in Charlotte and Raleigh.

Rail transportation in the Four County Electric service area is provided exclusively by CSX Transportation.
